Artist Statement

I am originally from the Detroit area and have been painting professionally since 1995.  My work has evolved over the years and includes a variety of styles, from pop art to abstract.  I often use  rich, vibrant colors and different materials to produce a "sculptural feel".  Pop Arts are done with acrylic on canvas, in color or entirely black and white, giving it an "old school" or 50's feel.

My artistic training was at the Cranbrook Schools from 1965 -1971, where I was introduced to a variety of art forms including sculpture, weaving, ceramics, and painting.  I later studied at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center, where I developed new techniques in oil painting, acrylics and collage.   When I came to Portland, I studied encaustic painting while continuing to refine my own personal style.

As a painter, I have always been attracted to works which are rich in color, texture and design.  The joy I experience in doing my work comes from the process itself, mixing colors, adding new  materials and experimenting with fresh ideas and techniques.

I have enjoyed being part of the Portland Art Scene, feeling that the community has a great appreciation for  the arts.  I continue to be impressed by the originality and unique styles of Northwest artists.
